Are you active with a progressive organization, neighborhood council, community group or on a campus?
If you are active in one of the many non-electoral organizations that work for peace, equality, human rights and economic justice, you can help build and shape the direction of a political party already on the state ballot by running as a candidate for the L.A. Central Committee.
The Central Committees of the Peace and Freedom Party are the decision-making bodies of the party:
they chart the political course of the party and carry out activities to insure that socialist values continue to have ballot representation.
It only takes 20 valid signatures to qualify as a candidate for Central Committees. In order to qualify for the ballot, signatures must be obtained between February 11 and March 7, 2008.
You are only 20 valid signatures away from qualifying to be a decision-maker affecting policy in a statewide political party working on the issues you already care about!
Members of the County Central Committees are elected in the June 2008 primary election and will be sworn in at the July 2008, meeting.
Elected members of the County Central Committee make up the State Central Committee. In August 2008, the new State Central Committee members will attend the Convention Meeting of the State Central Committee.
This year the Convention meeting will certify the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The party platform and bylaws will be adopted and new state officers will be elected at the convention.
As an elected member of the Peace and Freedom Party L.A. Central Committee you can influence and shape the political party that supports your progressive values Peace and Freedom Party wants and needs all of our ideas and energies .
